Access all areas
For five of the nine types, the moves and the wings combine to give at least some access to every sector of the board.
Everyone on the THREE-SIX-NINE triangle, for example, has at least some access to all nine sectors of the board – through the three types on the triangle itself, and then through the wings of each of those types.
The other two types with this access to ‘all areas’ are the remaining gut types, EIGHT and ONE – again by adding together home base, the stress move, the security move, and the wings of all three.
Typically, it is the distinctive gut zone which best allows access to the whole board – the whole of the head side and the whole of the heart side.
For the remaining types – SEVEN and FIVE and FOUR and TWO – the situation is less straightforward, highlighting once again the fundamental contrast between head and heart.
Adding together the wings, and the moves, and the wings of the moves, SEVEN has access to the whole of the head zone and the whole of the gut zone – but in the heart zone only touches TWO and FOUR as the wings of ONE and FIVE. Positive SEVEN has many gifts, but with no easy access to THREE, SEVEN does not easily make a natural leader or a competitive achiever. |  |
The same logic applies for heart type TWO, the mirror image of SEVEN. Involved compassionate TWO – responding to every need – can take on many roles, but the low-profile group membership of head type SIX is perhaps the least accessible. |  |
Furthest of all from the gut zone, FIVE and FOUR have the least access of all from one side of the board to the other. Their stress and security moves give full access to their own side of the board – but even with the wings added in, the only access across that central divide is deep in the inner life where FIVE and FOUR meet as head and heart wings of each other.
Head type FIVE has no easy access to heart side sectors ONE and TWO and THREE. Observer FIVE may take on many roles, but the least accessible are perhaps impulsive ONE, emotionally involved TWO, and the effortless mastery of group dynamics at THREE. SIX and SEVEN and EIGHT and NINE all provide ways for FIVE to relate to others – but the real relating of the heart, for FIVE, is always in that most profound place, deep in the heart zone at FOUR. |  |
The same logic applies for FIVE’s symmetrical opposite, heart type FOUR, which has no easy access to head-side sectors EIGHT and SEVEN and SIX. The creative individualist that is FOUR may take on many roles, but the least accessible are perhaps thick-skinned EIGHT, happy-go-lucky SEVEN, and contented low-profile group member SIX. And when FOUR wants to observe and reason – making use of the head zone resources – it will always be with that detached objectivity of FIVE – the one place where FOUR touches the head zone. |  |
