Three in a row
For each individual, home base and its two wings are the three most accessible strategies. Some people use all three of these strategies almost equally. Others depend almost entirely on home base alone.
For the majority, home base remains the usual strategy, and the wings are there as alternatives when required. Often one wing will be used more than the other – but both wings will always be evident to some degree: nobody is trapped completely in the caricature of just one sector of the board.
The wings can be significant in the process of identifying someone’s home base. You are looking for ‘three in a row’: home base and the two wings.
If a person appears to show one wing but not the other – only ‘two in a row’ – it may be that what you thought was a wing is actually home base.
Suppose a person showed a lot of NINE and some of EIGHT – but nothing of ONE. Is there perhaps something of SEVEN?
If so, that person is likely to be a natural EIGHT using wing strategy NINE a lot of the time – perhaps even most of the time, for whatever reason.
This becomes more important when we go on to consider the most common moves across the board – because moves are always made from home base, not from a wing.
For yourself, the wings identify your own next closest temptations and spiritual gifts after those of home base. They form part of the map of your potential temptations and gifts – and they invite you to take their paths to redemption: to avoid those temptations and to find those gifts.
