Gifts and temptations
People are often completely unaware of their own most natural gifts. Your ‘home base’ gifts may be such a natural part of every ordinary day that you have never thought to remark on them or name them or consider them in any way special or unusual. Once you find your place on the strategy board, you may be able to name your gifts, and give thanks for them, and use them day by day in a whole new creative way: each person is invited to ‘claim’ the gift that is already theirs.
You will also have been living with your home base temptation day by day and year by year. It is the one temptation you have fought more than any other. You have years of accumulated expertise in suppressing it, hiding it, justifying and denying it. You may have become convinced that it is the one temptation from the list that you do not face, you have spent so much time dealing with it. And yet, included in the description of the sector which otherwise seems to be yours, it could be staring at you again, unwelcome, repeatedly confronted, but somehow still there. Admitting the home base temptation can be the hardest thing – but it is the best possible launch onto the journey to redemption. The temptation is only the corruption of the strategy. The strategy itself is neutral, and can be turned to good. Name the temptation, and you are liberated to use your strategy positively to reach for your gifts. Acknowledging the temptation brings the freedom to move on from fallenness into giftedness.
