Head types – reviewPositive SEVEN’s long list of friends is a list of distinct one-to-one relationships, very much like TWO’s – but SEVEN engages in each with the logic of the head long before any engagement with the passion of the heart. The group experience for team leader THREE is about passions, emotions, and dreams – but for team member SIX it is about logic, reason, and choice. And intriguing symmetrical neighbors FOUR and FIVE, deep in the inner life, have much in common: both can have great insight and great objectivity; both plan carefully, even when pretending spontaneity; both can be tempted to withdraw from the world – but for FIVE, all of this experience is primarily in the head, while for FOUR it is primarily in the heart. FIVE and FOUR can both experience inner turmoil: for FOUR it is in the churning emotions, for FIVE it is in the churning mind. And while FOUR is seeking a profound and ‘emotionally complete’ understanding of the past, FIVE is consciously planning and choosing a future. Where the heart zone was a place for emotions and dreams – reaching out at TWO and THREE and FOUR – the head zone is a place to think and decide – observing and deciding at SEVEN and SIX and FIVE. To bring their best gifts, the head types need to overcome the fear that lives in their heads, and trust more – in God and in their own giftedness. Then, with heart and gut engaged so far as they are able, they may dare to step out in faith: FIVEs step out into action, SIXes step out beyond the inherited boundaries, and SEVENs step out toward the whole of life, not just the glittering part of it. And still their best gifts are right there in their own home sectors: wisdom, and faithfulness, and joy. |
